As we were decorating our beautiful, 8 foot, neon green (okay maybe it's not neon, it's really quite beautiful even if it doesn't smell like a douglas fir) it was neat to pull ornaments out of the box and recollect memories of Christmases past. The ornaments we loved seeing the most were ones the kids had made, particularly the ones with their photographs attached. Isn't it funny how a picture, song or even a smell can so quickly evoke a memory?

Our favorite tradition is making a birthday cake for Jesus. I always let my son Caleb do the decorating and over the years it has gone from looking like something completely unedible to being a special masterpiece. We always take a picture, light the candles, and sing 'Happy Birthday, Jesus'. We also have a present under the tree for Jesus. In the box, we place a slip of paper with what we (individually) want to give to Jesus this year. It always amazes me the insight the littlest family member has! And of course, we read the story of Christ's birth.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great one! Reminded us of the birthday parties we use to have on Christmas Eve back in the states. Love the idea of writing down the individual gifts!

We got to church and then eat IHOP every Christmas eve. Lookin forward to doing it one more time.
