June 20, 2024 Quickthought: Fear?

Has there been a time in history when folks were more fearful than today?  Wars, diseases, crime, division, weather incidents, and the list goes on.  Yet we're told over and over again in Scripture not to fear.  Why?  Because He's got this.  He's in control.  His kingdom is not rattled and His throne is not shaken by the things of this world.  Check out these very encouraging and exhorting words from the book of Matthew.
"Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?  And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will He not much more clothe you—you of little faith?  - Matt.6:26-30NIV

June 12, 2024 Quickshot: Escargot Anyone?

We are in the midst of hand-to-hand, errrrr hand-to-tentacle, warfare.  These slimy rascals may look harmless enough but good night can they do some damage to a garden.  We used to have the pretty little patch of onions but thanks to our squishy adversaries they now looks like someone took a string trimmer to them.  A friend suggested planting marigolds as a repellent, the slugs took to them like the kids at Krispy Kreme.  So it's back to the drawing board and onward Christian soldier.  The silver lining, at least we have a garden and some space to grow veggies.
