Been thinking quite a bit about the word "citizen" lately. We work with a lot of people who live in one place but call another place home. Many have fled their countries because of war, some pursuing employment, some for relationships and several just wanted a change of scenery. So, the question, "Anta min wane?" ("Where are you from?") is such a great conversation starter.
Webster defines citizenship as "the status of being a citizen" or "membership in a community." Wikipedia discusses several different types of citizenship, two of which stood out to us. National which refers to the country, city or region a person is from and Supranational refers to belonging to a larger group, like the European Union. However, we could not find anything in either resource about the most important type of citizenship, Supernatural, which is what Paul refers to in his letter to friends in Phillipi (check it out in 3:20).
No matter what your location, it's so easy to distort the concept of "home," and become entangled in the concerns of life on this planet. We're pretty sure that's not what He had in mind.
We hope you'll take some time this week to consider your citizenship. And think of us the next time someone asks you, "Where are you from?"
