Given the nature of our work and the amount of travel involved, it’s pretty common to exchange money. While much of the world takes US dollars, many places prefer their local currency. So, it’s normal practice to swap currencies either before we travel or as soon as we land in another place.
A couple helpful tips in dealing exchanging money:
One, download and use good app on your smartphone (There are many but here’s one we use).
Two, use a reputable establishment. We usually avoid the kiosks at the airport to get a better rate but sometimes it’s unavoidable. Just know the rate, take the time to review the transaction before walking away from the counter (Even if there’s a line and your first inclination is to hurry up and get out everyone else’s way.) and make sure you get a receipt (Like all travel receipts, we snap a pic with our phone for safe keeping.).
I’ve been thinking about the word “exchange” this week after reading this verse from 2 Corinthians. “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2Cor.5:21) Now, one party in this interaction got a great rate, the other a terrible one. Jesus the perfect, sinless, righteous One, bore the consequences of our worst actions, the worst wickedness of humanity. In exchange, we, imperfect, unholy, yucky people became God’s righteousness. Wow! That’s not just a great rate, it’s a glorious one and the reason we celebrate and worship Him this Easter.
