5July2013 Live from the Garden

We can't remember seeing this much rain in June or July....ever!  All this moisture is translating into bumper crops and we're grateful.  The only negative is it's nearly impossible to walk the rows without sinking up to your calves.  So we just take off our shoes and let the mud squeeze through our toes.  It's sort of therapeutic.

26June2013 Quickshot: Today's Haul

Great haul from this afternoon's trip to the garden.  Zucchini, Yellow Squash, Banana Peppers, Cherry Tomatoes and Cucumbers.  We should have some Roma tomatoes soon.

15June2013 Quickshot: Garden Update

Our garden seems to be coming along nicely.  We pulled our first vegetables, a couple zucchini, a banana pepper and a cucumber, last night.

8June2013 "Slowly I become one with the mud..."

Today's trip to the garden proved a little more sloppy than usually.  Our garden is now more of a swamp with vegetables.

3June2013 Quickshot: Growing

As we looked at these shots from the garden this weekend it became apparent, the tomatoes, peppers and squash aren't the only things growing.  Check out that tall drink of water giving the sweet potatoes a drink of water!  He's huge!  How amazing to watch your children grow before your very eyes!  Only God can do that!

26May2013 Quickshot: Coming Along

Our garden is coming along.  Thank God for spring showers.  Now if we can just keep the blasted weeds hoed back...

22May2013 Quickshot: Potential

Love this shot of seedlings we're growing for a second planting of the garden.  Nothing screams "potential" like vegetable seeds or plants....except maybe children.

10May2013 Garden

J, Z and P spent a couple hours hoeing the garden this afternoon.  Recent rains have everything growing especially the weeds.  The only thing looking poorly is our okra.  Hopefully a couple days of sunshine we help.

29April2013 Our Garden: A Humble Beginning

There's something therapeutic about digging your fingers into the soil.  That's not the only benefit of having a garden.  It's also good for little boys and girls to expend energy planting, hoeing, watering and weeding.  And, there are a lot of mouths to feed around here...

26August2012 Quickshot: Final Haul?

Check out the beautiful colors of what will likely be the last haul from our summer garden.  Thank you God for the bounty our family has enjoyed.  We know all good and perfect gifts come from above.

11August2012 Quickshot: Beautiful Visitor

Beautiful visitor in the garden today.

29July2012 Quickshot: Rascal

We would like to apologize to the deer for accusing them of being the sole detriment of our garden.  Apparently this fox has been part of the problem as well.  We hate losing produce but this is a pretty neat shot.

8July2012 Quickshot: Thou Shalt Not Steal

Here's a shot of one of our garden thieves.  They're cute but extremely hard on our produce.

Stir fry?  Why yes, thank you!

16June2012 Quickshot: Green Thumb Update

Beautiful morning in the garden today.  Some banana peppers, at least the ones that survived the deer invasion, are ready to pick, blackberries are getting close and okra is blooming.

9June2012 Quickshot: Green Thumb Update

Thank God, our garden is progressing quite nicely.  If we can keep the deer out we should have plenty of fresh, organic veggies for months.

6June2012 Quickshot: Berries

This year we've been experimenting with growing strawberries.  As you can see the results have been....wait for it....BERRY good.

2June2012 Quickshot: Payoff

Started picking veggies from the garden this week.  Today we got 5 zucchinis, a yellow squash and half a dozen cucumbers.  Our hard work is beginning to payoff.

4May2012 Quickshot: Growing stuff

Despite our best efforts it seems that most of our garden has actually survived.  So far there is zucchini, okra, eggplant, cucumbers, tomatoes, watermelon, cantaloupe, beans, carrots, potatoes and squash.  However, the thing we're paying the most attention to is the 5 bluebird eggs in a bird house we installed adjacent to the garden.  How cool is that?!
